Qualification & Experience:
ü Registered nurse with B.Sc /M.Sc/Nurse with ICN certificate
ü Previous experience as Infection Control Nurse (ICN) in an National Accreditation Board for Hospital (NABH) at least 2years OR staff nurse with experience in infection control surveillance in an NABH accredited hospital for 2years
 
Knowledge & Skills:
Knowledge 
ü Current infection control practices
ü Hospital infection control manual and protocols related to HICC
ü Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines on infection control, and other recommended guidelines
ü Comprehensive knowledge about software such as Microsoft office, Microsoft excel, Hospitals software, internet, e-mail etc
ü Collection and analysis of Hospital Acquired Infection (HAI) data
ü Relevant knowledge about statistics
 
Skill:
ü Regular surveillance of infection control practices
ü Sense to pick up an abnormal trend in HAI and non compliance with infection control practices AND execution of corrective measures for the same on an urgent basis
ü To identify patient to be isolated with the type of Isolation
ü Education and orientation of health care worker to current infection control practices
ü Skills to operate MS Excel MS Power point and graphs

Responsibilities:
ü Regular rounds to all clinical and non-clinical areas of the hospital, inspection of patient devices and collection of data pertaining to device events.
ü Monitoring infection control practices during ward rounds (checking hand hygiene in person, insertion of central vein catheters and Foley urinary catheters, safe injection practices, linen handling etc)
ü Follow up with peripheral intravascular access and patient feedback on hand hygiene monitoring
ü Monitoring environmental sanitation (including blood and body fluid spill management and equipment disinfection) during ward visits
ü Monitoring biomedical waste segregation and disposal
ü Verification of sterile sets use register and disinfection register and due dates of all ethylene oxide sterilized items
ü Co ordination with department of Microbiology for a) follow up of reports of biological indicator and b) follow up of water culture reports and c)follow up of patients having infection with organisms such as methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus, methicillin resistant Staphylococcus epidermidis, Vancomycin resistant Enterococcus and Carbapenemase producing bacteria and implementation of isolation nursing practices while such patients are under admission
ü Daily feedback to all HICC members on ward rounds and hand hygiene compliance by e mail
ü Analysis of data on HAI (surgical site infection, catheter associated urinary tract infection, catheter related blood stream infection, ventilator associated pneumonia) for root cause and attempt at prevention of such events in future
ü Monthly feedback to all nurses and doctors on HAI, prevalence of resistant bacteria, compliance to CDC audit tool in HD, rates of Needle Stick Injury (NSI) and Body Fluid Exposure (BFE), non compliance to Central Line Insertion Practice (CLIP) hand hygiene compliance rates and Bio Medical Waste (BMW) generated in kilograms by e mail
ü Preparation of HICC surveillants schedule on a monthly basis and follow up with their area visits
ü Preparation of schedule for meeting of committee members and surveillants members and circulation of minutes of the meetings to all nurses and doctors by e mail
ü Implementation and documentation of Hepatitis B vaccination for all non immune susceptible health care workers and issue of cards to those who had completed vaccination
ü Reporting, documentation and follow up of needle stick injury or body fluid exposure and analysis of root cause for the event and attempt at prevention of such an event in future
ü Co ordination with Central sterile supply department for recall in case of suspicion of sterilization failure
ü Organizing an emergency meeting in case of suspicion of an outbreak of infection and execution of the decisions taken in the meeting to contain the outbreak  
ü Safe custody of soft and hard copies pertaining to HICC (visits to wards, device events, schedule of meeting and minutes of the meeting etc)
ü Adapting to guidelines provided by government with respect to infection control practices during pandemic/epidemic
ü Follow up of Hepatitis B vaccination, Typoid and tetanus vaccination
ü Follow up of stool analysis for food handlers once in six months and after long leave of more than 15 days
ü Follow-up with disinfection and fumigation process
ü Regular training and education sessions for all health care workers on various infection control related topics.
ü Organizing an annual infection control program.
ü Canteen & Operation room visits
ü Should ensure the adherence to the safety precautions in the lab as per the checklist, if any lapse noted, should inform the technician as well as the lab in-charge and make sure that corrective measures are taken
 
Will supervise:
ü Supervision of Infection Control Nurse trainee
ü Supervision of housekeeping staff on biomedical waste segregation, surface cleaning and linen handling
ü Supervision of Blood and body fluid spill management
ü Supervision of central vein catheter insertion by doctors
ü Supervision of peripheral vein catheter and Foley urinary catheter insertion by doctors & nurses
ü Supervision of isolation nursing care
ü Supervision of environmental sanitation (overall cleanliness, disinfection and fumigation)
ü Closed circuit television monitoring on hand hygiene
 
Audit:
ü Audit of data on a) surgical site infection, catheter associated urinary tract infection, catheter related blood stream infection and ventilator associated pneumonia, b) peripheral intravascular access care, c) hand hygiene and d) Needle stick or body fluid exposure
ü CDC audit tool (Hemodialysis Unit)
ü Audit of entries in disinfection register and sterile set use register
ü Audit of housekeeping staffs on linen handling, surface cleaning, handling and dispose of BMW.
ü Audit on Food processing and food handling practices of canteen staffs.
ü Audit on Isolation Nursing care
ü HICC committee meeting, HICC Surveillants meeting and dialysis meeting
ü Emergency meeting in case of outbreak and recall
ü Regular training sessions for all health care workers 
ü Participating in workshop and CME program organized by Hospital
ü Conference and seminars on infection control practices.
